Chapter One — The Beginning
A family from Morocco,
a dream in Vancouver.
Mimo's story begins long before Moltaqa opened its doors in Yaletown. Rooted in a Moroccan family where food was never just sustenance — it was ceremony, connection, and love — Mimo carried those traditions across the ocean to Vancouver.
He first brought Moroccan cuisine to Vancouver's Gastown neighbourhood, where he learned what this city craves: authenticity. Real food, real flavour, real hospitality. When the opportunity came to move to Yaletown, Mimo brought everything with him — the recipes, the philosophy, and the name.
Moltaqa. A place where people meet.
Chapter Two — The Name
Moltaqa is more than
a restaurant.
In Arabic, Moltaqa means "the meeting place." It is the word for those moments when strangers become friends, when families reconnect, when a shared meal turns into a memory that lasts long after the plates are cleared.
That is exactly what we set out to create in Yaletown. A space where Vancouver's diverse communities — halal diners, vegans, cocktail lovers, date night couples, corporate tables, curious travellers — all find their place at the same table.
The food is Moroccan. The welcome is universal.
Chapter Three — The Kitchen
Slow-cooked, halal,
and honest.
Every dish at Moltaqa begins with time. Our tagines are slow-cooked in traditional clay pots — a method that naturally bastes the ingredients, keeping the meat tender and the flavours deep. No shortcuts. No compromises.
All our meat is halal, hormone-free, and antibiotic-free. Our menu includes vegan and pescatarian options, gluten-free choices, and a curated tasting menu for guests who want the full Moroccan experience from start to finish.
We also serve daily brunch featuring Tonino Lamborghini luxury Italian espresso — because the Moroccan tradition of a long, unhurried morning meal deserves coffee worthy of the occasion.
