If you've been looking for a live music restaurant in Vancouver that actually feels different, Moltaqa is worth your evening.
Every Friday night from 7:45 PM, Parsa performs live Arabic music right in the middle of the restaurant. He plays the Qanun — a traditional stringed instrument you've probably never heard live before unless you've spent time in Morocco or the Middle East. It's the kind of music that makes you put your phone down.
Parsa performing live Arabic music every Friday night at Moltaqa, Yaletown
Moltaqa is one of the very few restaurants with live music in Yaletown where the performance is built into the dining experience — not background noise, not a stage in the corner. Parsa plays in the room, among the tables, and the whole atmosphere shifts around it. No cover charge. Just dinner, music, and an evening that doesn't feel like anywhere else in Vancouver.
"There's a noticeable shift in the room when the music starts. Conversations get quieter, people lean in, and the whole evening slows down in the best possible way."
You're eating handcrafted tagines and fresh Moroccan bread while this incredible instrument fills the space around you. It genuinely doesn't feel like Vancouver anymore.
Dinner runs $30–$40 per person. Walk-ins are welcome — though we recommend a reservation on Friday nights so your table is ready when the music starts.
Friday evenings at Moltaqa, 1002 Mainland St, Yaletown
Yes, it's a great date spot. But it works just as well for birthdays, family dinners, out-of-town guests, or just a Friday when you need something different. Groups are very welcome and the team is happy to arrange seating for larger parties on music nights. If you're planning a corporate dinner in Vancouver and want something more memorable than a generic private room, this is worth considering.
Most people walking into Moltaqa on a Friday night have never heard a Qanun played live. It's a flat, trapezoidal string instrument — one of the oldest in the Arab world — with 78 strings played with finger picks. The sound sits somewhere between a harp and a piano, but warmer and more resonant than either. When Parsa plays, the whole room hears it.
Friday nights fill up. Reserve your table and arrive when the music starts.
